Born on November 5, 1938 in the Town of Washington, NY, he was the son of the late James and Winifred (Somers) Ferris. On December 22, 1966 in Poughkeepsie, NY he married Laura J. Allen who survives at home. Mr. Ferris enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his time in the Adirondacks. He was also a member of the Greater Grace Community Church in Dover Plains, NY.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Corina Jackowski of Clinton Corners, NY; a son, James A. Ferris, Jr. of Dover Plains, NY; three brothers, Leonard Ferris of Claverack, NY, Irving Ferris of Pine Plains, NY and Daniel Ferris of Bennington, VT; four sisters, Ida McEathron of Millerton, NY, Muriel McEathron of Forest City, PA, Lorraine Phillips of Durham, NC and Diane Hall of Lakeville, CT. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Victoria Jackowski, Jonathan Ferris, Jr., Caitlin Ferris and Amanda Ferris. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Jonathan Ferris; two sisters, Mildred Birdsall and Catherine Wendover and a brother, Stanley Ferris.

A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Greater Grace Community Church, 3511 route 22, Dover Plains, NY with Pastor Gary Witt officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery, Nellie Hill Rd., Dover Plains, NY. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Greater Grace Community Church, P.O. Box 68, Dover Plains, NY 12522.
