Obituary for Ruth Voils

Ruth Voils
Ruth Eleanor Voils, 89, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY, died on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Coupeville, Washington. Mrs. Voils’ was a therapy aide at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center for 10 years and Wassaic Developmental Center for 5 years, retiring in 1983.

Born on September 15, 1927 in Chicago, IL she was the daughter of the late James and Jennie (Calhoun) Patterson. On December 3, 1963 in Chicago, IL she married Ralph Voils who predeceased her on October 9, 2008. Mrs. Voils was the past president of the American Legion Post #1949 Auxiliary in Wingdale, NY and past matron of the Dover Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Voils was a longtime member of the Dover Plains United Methodist Church; an active member of the church choir and a member of the Church Board of Trustees.

Mrs. Voils is survived by her daughters, Lola Ruth Moody, and her husband, Robert, of Coupeville, WA and Sharon Myers of Poughkeepsie, NY. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Tyson Myers, Keita Johnson, Alex Craig, and Pomfilla Johnson; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, William, James and Harold Patterson and four sisters, Margaret Mouritsen, Gladys Dawson, Thelma Cox and Myrtle Panter.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Dover Plains United Methodist Church, Mill St. Dover Plains, NY. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery.
