Johnny McGlynn "Cook"  Anderson
Johnny McGlynn “Cook” Anderson, 57, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY, died on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY.
He was raised in Woodland, NC and was a member of Zions Grove Baptist Church in St. John, NC. He attended the Woodland Only School. After moving to Wingdale, NY he attended Dover Jr./Sr. High School and graduated Dutchess BOCES Technical School’s auto mechanics program.
Mr. Anderson was a self-employed auto mechanic and a DJ known as “DJ Johnny A.” Besides his wife and soulmate Stephanie, the other great love of his life was music. He was a car enthusiast and had a great love for the drag strip. Johnny also greatly enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, driving his camaro “Boss Hoss,” sharing old stories and telling jokes.
Born on August 14, 1958 in the County of Northampton, NC, he was the son of late Roosevelt Anderson and Roberta Lassiter Anderson who survives in Woodland, NC. Stephanie Lang and Johnny met during the summer of 1980 and would spend the rest of his days together. On June 26, 1999 at the Dover Second Baptist Church in Dover Plains he married Stephanie Lang who survives in Poughkeepsie.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his son, Demetrius Wright of Poughkeepsie, NY; two daughters, Samantha Anderson (Chuck) and Kendall Anderson of Poughkeepsie, NY; four brothers, Roosevelt Anderson of Murfreesboro, NC, George Anderson (Janet) of Dover Plains, NY, Thomas Anderson (Debora) of Murfreesboro, NC and Joseph Anderson (Michelle) of Poughkeepsie, NY; three sisters, Diane Anderson of Bronx, NY, Veronica Bowser (Alvin) of Woodland, NC, and Melida White of Greenville, SC. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jordan Anderson-Pressley, Jhené and Janessa Anderson all of Poughkeepsie NY and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.
Among other surviving members are his adopted daughter Amanda Fuller of Verbank, NY and “surrogate” daughters Sheena Jensen of Fishkill, NY, Barbara Swartz of Dover Plains NY and Ashley Zagarella of Wingdale, NY. Besides his father, he was predeceased by a son, Johnny McGlynn Anderson, Jr. and two sisters Nancy and Hazel Anderson.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY.
