Obituary for Marcella J. Butts

Marcella J. Butts, 95, a lifelong resident of Wassaic, NY, died on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Sharon Health Care Center in Sharon, CT. Cella was a postal clerk at the Wassaic Post Office for 35 years and served as acting postmaster there for five years before retiring.

Born on August 25, 1919 in Amenia, NY, she was the daughter of the late Michael James and Mary Ann (O’Rourke) Fitzpatrick. On September 28, 1941 at Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia, she married George E. Butts who died on September 7, 1995. Mrs. Butts was an avid bingo player and Mets fan who loved to camp and travel. She also loved having family Sunday dinners and playing cards afterward. She was a charter member and first president of the Wassaic Fire Company Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Wassaic Friendship Center and the Amenia Senior Citizens. A parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, she was a member of the Catholic Daughters.

Mrs. Butts is survived by two sons, John Edward Butts and his wife, Coleen, of Amenia, NY and George Michael Butts and his wife, Judy, of Amenia. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Lisa Hurn, James Butts, Dawn Cooper, John Butts, Brian Butts, LeighAnn Merrill, Michael Butts and Jeffrey Butts, 14 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, James George Butts and three brothers, Michael, John and Charles Fitzpatrick and three sisters, Katherine Hardisty, Mary Fitzpatrick and Marge Lennon.

Calling hours will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church, 4 Lavelle Rd., Amenia, NY with Rev. Kent Wilson officiating. Burial will take place at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Amenia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church, 4 Lavelle Rd., Amenia, NY 12501.
