Obituary for John Douglas Casson

John Douglas Casson, 64, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY died suddenly on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at White Plains Hospital in White Plains, NY.

Born on July 20, 1950 in Long Island, NY he was the son of the late Edward G. Casson and Ann Marie Hill. John met Brigid Daly at a restaurant in New York City, where they worked together as waiters. They were married on July 25, 1981 in Baltimore, MD.

Mr Casson had a long career as a project manager and building inspector in the construction industry. John attended the University of Toronto, where he graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology in 1973. In 1982 he graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Architecture from City College, NY.

John had a few great loves in his life: music, working with his hands, and above all - his family. Nothing gave John greater joy than spending time with his family. His siblings were his closest friends, his children his greatest source of joy, and his wife his closest companion. One of John's most distinguishing characteristics was his sense of humor. He saw the world in a way few others did, often finding quirky amusement in little things.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Casson is survived by two daughters, Ellie Casson and her husband, James Riotto, of Oakland, CA and Hillary Casson of Boston, MA and a son, Joseph Casson of San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by seven siblings, Tom Casson and his wife, Jill Barrie, of Naperville, IL, Chris Madden and her husband, Kevin, of Vero Beach, FL, Mary Lessard and her husband, Ron, of Princeton, NJ, James Casson and his wife, Marilyn, of Montague, NJ, Justin Casson and his wife, Lee, of Croton-on-Hudson, NJ, Paul Casson and his wife, Elizabeth Sauer, of Manhattan, NY and Jeannie Casson of Paris, France. Besides his parents, Mr. Casson was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Casson.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 62 Mill St., Dover Plains, NY with Rev. Peter Daly officiating.
