Obituary for Charles John Torgersen

Charles John Torgersen
Charles John Torgersen was born on May 11, 1954 to Gerard and Ellen Torgersen and lived in St. James, Long Island. Their Family later moved to Patterson, NY. Charlie "Chuck" graduated from the Carmel school system and Later the Hobart School of Welding in Ohio. In October, 1980, he married Kathy Harned at St. Johns in Pawling, New York and they have two Sons, Christian and Nathaneil.
Over the years he worked at Pres-Ray, Hippotronics, Overhead Door in Hudson, Hatfield and currently Neeltran in CT. Here he was a Welder Fabricator who could invent, alter, fix just about anything placed in front of him. He has several patents from his ideas while working on everything from huge transformers to small machined pieces. He loved to work with metal in many ways and his finished pieces were a work of art, including a full size sculpture in Poughkeepsie.
As a person, he always relished meeting new people, could figure out anything mechanical and was always looking to do everything better. As a friend, he treasured your friendship and would keep you on your toes never quite knowing what was going to come out of his mouth or to show you some new thing he would weld up. He loved to talk about history, especially WWI and WWII on which he was an expert. As a husband and father he loved us, took care of us and always showed us a way to do things better sometimes whether you agreed or not.
Charlie had many friends and Associates too many to list-be you a lifelong or newer Friend he loved you all. He was a collector of many things and shared these "treasures" with everyone. He grew hot peppers and was always looking for that elusive Hot Sauce that would scorch to perfection. Lately he was trying his hand at cooking.
Charlie's greatest source of pride was his sons Christian and Nathaneil-he marveled at their newness when they were born and was amazed when they grew well over six feet. Most of all he loved his spending as much time as he could with them, talking, working in the driveway and watching how they both grew into wonderful people. He was happy to see them bring two lovely ladies into our lives and enjoyed getting to know Christian's Ashley and Nathaneil's Olivia better. Too, he was loving and loved son and brother.
He leaves his mother, Ellen; a brother, William and many aunts, uncles and cousins all over the country. He lost his father, Gerard and a brother, Eric several years ago.
Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY.
