Obituary for Kevin A. Ahearn

Kevin A. Ahearn, 63, a lifelong resident of Amenia, NY died on Monday, April 29, 2013 at his home in Amenia. Mr. Ahearn worked as a Detective for the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office for 36 years retiring in 2006.

Born on January 3, 1950 in Sharon, CT he was the son of the late Edmond and Patricia Thompson Ahearn. Mr. Ahearn proudly served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. On February 14, 1983 in Poughquag, NY he married Kathleen Watson who survives at home.

Mr. Ahearn was a life member of the Amenia Fire Company and VFW Post #544 in Amenia, NY, and a member of the American Legion Post #178 in Millerton, NY. He was an avid sportsmen and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a very devoted husband, father, brother, and son. Those who were his friends were friends for life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Joshua Ahearn and his wife, Nicole; a step-son, Tony Maillet, Jr. and his companion, Stephanie Power; a brother, Bruce Ahearn and his wife, Grace, and two sisters, Irene Ahearn and Kelly Kilmer and her husband, Scott. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Taylor Elizabeth Ahearn. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Patricia Ahearn and Kathleen Thompson Carroll.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held from 12 noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the American Legion Post #178, Lakeville Road, Millerton, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the V.F.W.
