Janet Marie Mahar, 71, a longtime resident of Amenia, NY, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT. Mrs. Mahar was a caring registered nurse at several state institutions throughout the Hudson Valley including the Wassaic Developmental Center, Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center and the Hudson River Psychiatric Center retiring in 2001. Mrs. Mahar also worked at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Born on July 5, 1946 in Utica, NY she was the daughter of the late Norman and Doris (Smith) Seemann. On November 25, 1967 in Whitesboro, NY, she married William Mahar who survives at home. Mrs. Mahar was a Sunday school teacher and a longtime parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia, NY. Mrs. Mahar was like a mother to many, she was a loving women who opened her arms to many more than just her own children.

In addition to her loving husband, Mrs. Mahar is survived by her children, Marla Perkins and her husband, Brian, of Craryville, NY, William J. Mahar of Amenia, NY, James M. Mahar and his significant other, Erica Proper, of Amenia, NY, Jennifer M. Mahar of Millerton, NY and Laura Mahar and her significant other, Jason Quiles, of Millerton, NY. She is also survived by a sister, Norma Pinto of Sebastian, FL and ten grandchildren, Austin and Shane Perkins, Bellah and Landyn Mahar, Leanah and Kearstin Recchia, Henrietta Gaeta and Mia, Cayden and Dante Quiles. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mahar was predeceased by a daughter, Mara Anne Mahar in 1973.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church, 4 Lavelle Road, Amenia, NY.
