Since 7th grade in 1978 I was a loner who didn't make friends easily. The first time I stepped foot into the library at the high school, not only did I have a place where I could hide, but I found a friend that accepted the bookworm that I was. She encourage me to read, but also gave me odd little jobs that made me feel useful and made me have to speak with other students. No matter my reading subject she had long conversations with me about whatever book I read. For many years I wanted to be a librarian - until I learned they needed as much schooling as a doctor. UGH - too much for me. Even though she retired the same year I graduated, I've always remembered her surrounded by books, and though the military life took me far away I still read a book a day and thank her for all the interest, support, friendship and knowledge she passed on to me. She will be missed. Liz Dwy
