Obituary for Doris Dedrick (Hufcut)

Doris H. Dedrick of Dover Plains, NY, passed away on November 10, 2017, at Noble Horizons, Salisbury, CT. Born on May 6, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Errol B. and Anna (Hoag) Hufcut. She graduated from Dover Plains High School, received her bachelor’s degree in education from SUNY Plattsburgh and her master’s degree in library science from Pace University.

Mrs. Dedrick started the home economics program at Dover High School and taught there for many years. She was the high school librarian from 1970 until her retirement in 1983.

She was the first Town of Dover town historian, a life-long member of the Second Baptist Church of Dover where she served as treasurer for over 40 years. She had been a member of the board of trustees and treasurer for the Dover Library for 40 years, a charter member of the Town of Dover Historical Society and a member of the Duchess of York Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists.

On January 23, 1944, in Dover Plains, she married Donald B. Dedrick, who predeceased her February 24, 2012.

Mrs. Dedrick is survived by her daughters, Donna Reimer and Betsy Humeston; her son, Jay Dedrick; five granddaughters, Anne MacNeil, Jessica Grey, Carrie Sanders, Brittany Jordan and Marilyn Dedrick; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Jean Sartori and five nieces. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, E. Raymond Hufcut.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Second Baptist Church of Dover, 29 Mill St., Dover Plains, NY with Rev. Jon Carter officiating.
