Obituary for Donald W. Barkman

Donald W. Barkman, 85, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY, died on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at his home in Dover Plains. Mr. Barkman was a tractor trailer driver and later worked as a lineman for Metro North Railroad.

Born on November 4, 1931 in Margaretville, NY, he was the son of the late Claude and Iva (Finch) Barkman. Mr. Barkman proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 25, 1983 in Dover Plains, NY he married Beverly Ann Dunn who predeceased him on September 6, 2017. Mr. Barkman was a member of the VFW Post#5444 in Dover Plains, NY and was a former member of the J. H. Ketcham Hose Company. He was also a member of the Dover Plains and Sharon United Methodist Churches.

Mr. Barkman is survived by his two step-daughters, Karen See of Dover Plains, NY and Tammy Mann of Lewisville, TX; a step-son, Lawrence Harrison of Dover Plains, NY and a brother, Raymond Barkman and his wife, Priscilla, of Schoharie, NY. He is also survived by nine grandchildren. Amber Jordan, Kristen, Brittany and Alyssa Pentz, Heather Lamont, Heidi Rogers, Jennifer Mann, Nicole Gregory and Bobby Mann and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Barkman was predecease by a daughter, Donette Barkman.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the funeral home with Pastor Margaret Laemmel officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Dover Plains.
