Obituary for Benjamin D. Horton Jr.

Benjamin D.  Horton Jr.
Benjamin D. Horton, Jr., 61, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY, died on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. Mr. Horton worked in the Grounds Department at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, NY retiring in 1990.

Born on July 17, 1956 in Sharon, CT, he was the son of the late Benjamin D. Horton, Sr. and Dorothy June (Brizzie) Horton. On May 8, 1976 at the Dover Plains United Methodist Church in Dover Plains, NY he married Frances Somers who survives at home. Mr. Horton was a member of the CSEA.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Horton is survived by his two sons, Benjamin D. Horton, III and his wife, Penny, of Bloomsburg, PA and James F. Horton and his wife, Kelsey, of Lakeville, CT. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Alec, Hunter, and Aryanna Horton; a brother, John Horton and his wife, Vicky, of Amenia, NY; two sisters, Linda Gagnon of Saugerties, NY and Lisa Gottenburg and her husband, Mark, of Saugerties, NY; an Uncle, Richard Horton of Lakeville, CT and a half sister, Tammy Chodan of Orlando, FL. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Horton was predeceased by his brother, Francis E. Horton and a brother-in-law, Bill Gagnon.

Calling hours will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Burial will be private.
