Obituary for Marco Anthony Sartori

Marco Anthony  Sartori
Marco Anthony Sartori, 90, peacefully entered eternal rest on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at his home after battling prostate cancer. Marco had been employed for 30 years at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale and was a part-time employee for The Grand Union Company for 35 years.

Born in Dover Plains on February 20, 1927, he was the oldest child of Frank J and Lena (Rennia) Sartori. Marco attended Dover schools and proudly served his county with the US Army during WWII in Germany and Japan. He was discharged as Master Sargent. On July 17, 1954, he married Margaret “Peggy” Barrett in Dover Plains, NY.

Marco was a past commander and life member of the VFW Post #5444, a member of the American Legion Post # 1949 and a 70-year life member of the J.H. Ketcham Hose Company in Dover Plains. He was also a member of the CSEA. Marco was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and a member of the Amenia Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. Sartori and his wife, Sonya, of Wingdale, NY, his daughter and son-in-law, Margaret-Ann Deister and her husband, Peter, of Amenia. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Ryan Sartori and his wife, Christina, of Wingdale, Amber Grayson and her husband, Daniel, of Wingdale, Matthew Deister and his wife, Jessica, of Amenia, and Austin Deister of Manhattan. Also surviving are his 6 great-grandchildren, Lucas and Eli Sartori, Teagan and Kinsley Grayson all of Wingdale and Cody and Connor Deister of Amenia. Marco is also survived by his brothers and sister-in-law’s and their families, Al and Dolores Sartori of Dover Plains and Frank and Sue Sartori of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife, Margaret “Peggy” Barrett Sartori on June 17, 2006 and his beloved daughter Maureen Sartori on May 15, 2011.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Leonard Astrauskas, his assistant Carrie Ann Lake and his staff and Hospice for their compassion and support during Marco’s illness. A special thanks to Dorothy Kilmer and John and Theresa Caruso for your daily visits and always being there to lend a hand when needed.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on, Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. The J.H. Ketcham Hose Company will conduct firematic services at 7:15 p.m. and the VFW Post #5444 will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2017 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Dover Plains. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Dover Plains. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW Post #5444, 3422 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY 12522 or the J.
