Obituary for William J. "Billy" Carroll

William J. "Billy"  Carroll
William J. Carroll, 71, a lifelong resident of Amenia, NY died on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at his home in Amenia. Mr. Carroll was a lineman for NYSEG for 36 years retiring in 2005.

Born on January 14, 1946 in Sharon, CT he was the son of Florence (Brunese) Carroll of Salisbury, CT and the late John J. Carroll. Mr. Carroll graduated from Webutuck High School class of 1964. He proudly served in the US Air Force during The Vietnam War. On July 1968 in Seoul, Korea he married Micha K. Carroll who predeceased him on March 7, 2016.

Mr. Carroll was a life member of the Amenia Fire Company. He was the past president and a life member of VFW Post #5444 in Amenia and a member of the Millerton American Legion Post #178. Mr. Carroll served on the Amenia Town Board as a councilman for 8 years. He played and later was an assistant manager of the Amenia Monarchs. He also played for the Webutuck Softball Team for 10 years.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Carroll is survived by his step-son, John Connell of Marion, IL; three brothers, John Carroll, Alan Carroll and Philip Carroll all of Amenia, NY and a sister, Jean Leggett of Dover Plains, NY. He is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Torrie and Dylan Connell. Besides his father and wife, Mr. Carroll was predeceased by a sister, Ursula Robertson and three brothers, Thomas, Joseph and Richard Carroll.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A Service of The Word will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Church, 4 Lavelle Road, Amenia, NY. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Amenia. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
