Obituary for Joseph C. Loughlin

Joseph Claire Loughlin, 99, a lifelong resident of Wassaic, NY, died on Friday, February 3, 2017 at his home in Wassaic. Mr. Loughlin was a dairy farmer who owned and operated Loughlin Farm in Wassaic, NY.

Born on August 1, 1917 in Sharon, CT he was the son of the late Joseph Thomas and Mary Ellen (Mally) Loughlin. Mr. Loughlin was a graduate of Sharon Central Schools class of 1937. He proudly served in the US Army during World War II. On October 18, 1947 at Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia, NY he married Marie McEniff who predeceased him on July 14, 1998.

Mr. Loughlin was a former Town of Amenia Assessor; he also served as the Town of Amenia Supervisor from 1980-1984. Mr. Loughlin was an honorary member of the Wassaic Fire Department. He was also a member for the VFW Post #5444 in Amenia.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Lamay and her husband, Richard, of Wassaic, NY; two grandchildren, Sharon Vesely and George Hoffman and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Loughlin was predeceased by a son, Joseph Thomas Loughlin; two daughters, Maureen and Kathleen Loughlin; a brother, Thomas Loughlin; three sisters, Margaret Roeske, Marion Hale and Helen Krupa and a great-granddaughter, Bridget Vesely.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Church, 4 Lavelle Road, Amenia, NY with Rev. Kent Wilson officiating.
