Betty Jane House, 87, a loving mother and grandmother and longtime resident of Gerry, NY died peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center in Gerry, NY. Betty was born on July 16,1929 in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of the late Burdette and Jane (Pratt) Baker.

Betty attended Cassadaga Valley schools and played as the first chair clarinet before graduating in 1947 from Cassadaga Valley High School in Sinclairville, NY. After graduation she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Flickinger's Company in Jamestown, NY. On July 25,1948 in Kennedy, she married Arthur House who died on October 24, 2003. Betty and Art lived and raised their family in Gerry, NY and were longtime active community volunteers. After recuperating from polio in1950, Betty was instrumental in coordinating polio vaccination clinics in the Town of Gerry and served as the town chairperson for the local March of Dimes. For more than 60 years, Betty was a faithful member and supporter of the Gerry United Methodist Church and volunteered at numerous church dinners and fundraisers. She was also a longtime, active volunteer with the Gerry Fire Department's Annual Rodeos.

A six-year resident at Heritage Village, she served as the president of the Residents' Council and was an advocate for the care and well-being of residents. Her thoughtfulness and concern for others were reflected in many deep and enduring friendships she had and cherished with childhood, neighborhood and community friends. She enjoyed listening to music, especially the Big Band sound, and playing tunes she learned by ear on the family's piano. She loved sending and receiving cards and letters from her children and grandchildren who will deeply miss her.

Betty is survived by three children; a son, Jerry House and his wife, Mary Jo, of Jamestown, NY; a son, Larry House and his wife, Katie, of Dover Plains, NY; and a daughter, Diane Blizzard, and her husband, Brad, of Cassadaga, NY; two sisters, Nancy Salemme of of Gerry, NY and Shirley Myers of Jamestown, NY and seven grandchildren, Laura House and her fiancé, Ryan Zuckerwise, Steven House, Andrew House and his wife, Amanda, Emily Perrotta and her husband, Facundo, Kristin House, Brian and Jarrett Blizzard, USN Guam. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call at the Jordan Funeral Home, Park Ave in Sinclairville, NY from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Bender officiating. Burial will follow at Gerry Cemetery in Gerry, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Gerry United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 187, Gerry, NY 14740 or the Gerry Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 115, Gerry, NY. 14740.
