Obituary for William George Ketchin Jr.

William George  Ketchin Jr.
William George Ketchin, Jr., 76, a lifelong resident of Wingdale, NY died on February 10, 2015 at New Milford Hospital in New Milford, CT. Born on January 12, 1939 in Sharon, CT he was the son of the late William George Ketchin, Sr. and Marian Belle (Morganteen) Ketchin. Mr. Ketchin was a 1957 graduate of Dover High School and in 1958 enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany and France during his service and was discharged in 1963.

Mr. Ketchin worked at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, NY and then the New York State Dept. of Corrections for 25 years (1965-1990), retiring as a lieutenant. After his retirement, Mr. Ketchin repaired lawn equipment and also worked at Agway in Pawling, NY assembling, servicing, and repairing lawn equipment. In his spare time, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed researching family genealogy. Mr. Ketchin was also a former member of the J.H. Ketcham Hose Company.

Mr. Ketchin is survived by his wife of 49 years Mary Ellen Taylor Ketchin; his son, Anthony Ketchin and his wife, Mary of Dover Plains, NY; his daughter, Nancy Badger and her husband, Andrew of Hopewell Junction, NY and his beloved grandchildren Marissa Ketchin, Taylor Ketchin, and Mason Badger. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Lee Nickerson and nephew, Michael Nickerson both of Wingdale, NY and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Judith Joy Nickerson.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2015 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Zora Ficarra-Cheatham officiating. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at the South Dover Rural Cemetery in Wingdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, NY 12538.
