Obituary for Martha Lou Beller

Martha Lou Beller
Martha Lou Boyle Beller died peacefully on July 19, 2014, at the age of eighty-two, surrounded by loving family. Her death was caused by complications from a broken hip in June.

Martha was born in Piggott, Arkansas on February 1, 1932 to Roy Lee Boyle and Edna Johnson Boyle. Martha graduated from Piggott High School in 1950. She graduated from the University of Arkansas and loved teaching her grandchildren how to “call those hogs!” Martha was teaching in Saint Louis, Missouri, when she met Roy Menno Beller, whom she married on August 16, 1956. Martha loved teaching the second grade and continued to enjoy decorating for every holiday throughout her life.
Martha joined the First United Methodist Church after moving to Harlingen in 1958 and was proud to call it her church. In addition, she was the Texas State Chiropractic Auxiliary, where she was named: woman of the year in 1969. She and Roy were members of the Harlingen Country Club for many years, and Martha was the President of the 12:30 Club in 1974. Martha and Roy enjoyed traveling the world together, playing bridge, and watching their grandchildren grow up. Martha also loved walking, reading the paper, and catching-up with relatives both on the telephone and in person.

Martha is survived by her son, Roy Lee Beller of Wingdale, New York; her daughter, Mary Beller McKelvey of Houston, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Kathryn Beller and her son-in-law, Eugene McKelvey. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Beller, Gregory Charles Beller, Margaret Alison Beller, John Stuart Beller, David Menno McKelvey, and James Mowry McKelvey. She is predeceased by her husband of fifty-seven years, Roy Menno Beller of Harlingen, Texas, her brother Kenneth Lee Boyle of Overland Park, Arkansas, and her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, 321 East Harrison Avenue, Harlingen, Texas. The family requests that any donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Harlingen, 321 East Harrison Avenue, Harlingen, Texas 78550.
