Obituary for Rev. Earl James Dakin

Rev. Earl James Dakin, 88, of Bloomingdale, NY, formerly a longtime of resident of Wingdale and Amenia, NY, died on May 19, 2014 at Plattsburgh Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY. Rev. Dakin was a licensed Baptist minister and pastor who served the Patterson Baptist Church in Patterson, NY for eight years and the Dover First Baptist Church in Wingdale, NY for 26 years. He also was employed at the Foundation for Christian Living (Peale Center) in Pawling for 40 ½ years retiring in 1991.

Born on March 2, 1926 in Carmel, NY, he was the son of the late William and Mary Ette (Miller) Dakin. On September 6, 1953 in Sherman, CT, he married Nancy Waller who died on March 25, 2013. He was a member of the Netherwood Baptist Church in Salt Point, NY.

Rev. Dakin is survived by two sons, Earl J. Dakin, Jr. and his companion, Cindy Woodson, of Bloomingdale, NY and Keith Dakin and his wife, Amy, of Pawling, NY; a daughter, Carol A. Newman of Tucson, AZ and two grandchildren, Kyle and Aubrey Dakin of Pawling, NY.

Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeffrey Conley officiating. Burial will follow at the South Dover Cemetery in Wingdale, NY.
